Salam Alaikum
I have put in my humble efforts and limited knowledge to compile the "Story of Samiri" from the Holy Quran and using interpretations. May Allah forgive me in case any error and accept my humble efforts - Allahumma Aameen ~The Story Of Samiriٓ Allah the Great relieved the people of Bani Israel from Pharaoh and promised the Prophet Moses (Peace be upon Him) that He would speak to Moses and reveal unto him a book on the right side of Mount Sinai at a particular time. Prophet Moses was very anxious to meet Allah and went earlier than called; on this Allah asked him : "What made thee hasten in advance of thy people, O Moses?" He replied: "Behold, they are close on my footsteps: I hastened to thee, O my Lord, to please thee." ((Allah)) said: "We have tested thy people in thy absence: the Samiri has led them astray." So Moses returned to his people in a state of indignation and sorrow. He said: "O my people! did not your Lord make a handsome promise to you? Did then the promise seem to you long (in coming)? Or did ye desire that Wrath should descend from your Lord on you, and so ye broke your promise to me?" They replied to Prophet Moses, “We didn’t break our promise by our own will; and but, of the tribe (Qubti’s) some gold was becoming a burden so, upon the saying of Samiri we put it into the fire and similarly Samiri also put in some gold” Then Samiri made for them a calf of gold and it would make meaningless sounds and these foolish people started telling each other that “This is only the god of Moses” These foolish people couldn’t even think that this calf didn’t have the power for doing them good or bad nor would reply anything; yet they started worshiping it. Prophet Haroon (May Allah be pleased with him) whom Moses had left behind to lead the tribe in his absence addressed them before the return of Moses from Mount Sinai; he said: “Oh! My tribe, this calf is the reason for you to be entrapped in the wrath of Allah and your Lord (Allah) is the Most Merciful; so follow me and obey my command.” They replied: “We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us." When Moses returned he caught hold of Haroon’s beard and hair and said: “Oh! Haroon; What kept you from coming to me when you saw that they had gone completely astray; So have you also disobeyed me?” Haroon replied: “O son of my mother! Seize me not; by my beard nor by the hair of my head! Truly I feared lest you would say; that I have caused a division among the children of Israel, and that I did not respect your word!’ On hearing this Moses left his brothers’ hair and turned towards Samiri and asked him : “Oh Samiri What is your matter?” Samiri said: I saw what the children of Israel did not see. Moses asked him: “and what did you see that they did not?” He said: I saw Gabriel riding a female horse, Balqa', the beast of life, (Where ever Balqa would keep her feet over there green grass would grow.) so I seized a handful from the footsteps of the messenger from the dust upon which Gabriel's horse stepped on, and threw it in the calf's mouth and behind. Thus did my soul entice me to do. Moses said to him: “Then go O Samiri! And lo! in this life for as long as you live it is for thee to say: Touch me not you do not interact with anyone and no one will interact with you! And lo! There is for you a tryst you have an appointed time on the Day of Judgement which can not break you cannot miss. Now look upon your god of which thou hast remained a votary look at the god which you worshipped. Verily we will burn it and will scatter its dust over the sea. Samiri was afflicted by Leprosy! (Until here all is a part of form Surah Ta Ha, Chapter 20, verses 83 to 97, interpretations of renowned scholars have been used) Then Prophet Moses turned towards his Tribe and said O my people! Ye have wronged yourselves, harmed yourselves by worshipping the calf; and then the children of Israel realized their wrong doing and Moses was then asked what to do, he told them: so turn in penitence to your Creator, again they asked him how to turn in penitence to Allah, and he said: and kill the guilty among yourselves let those who did not worship the calf kill those who worshipped it. That penitence and killing will be best for you with your Creator and He will relent towards you He will forgive you. Thus they started killing each other, until Prophet Moses feared that they would kill each other until none existed, and he turned towards Allah and begged for Mercy, and Allah had ordered them then to stop killing and had forgiven them. (The above is taken from Surah BAqarah Chapter 2 verse 54) Subhaan Allah ~*~*~*~**~*~*~**~**~
